What is Dirt Lab Coaching?

Dirt Lab is a manifestation of many hours training, racing, winning, losing, learning and growing. I save you the hassle of learning the hard way. I shave time off the trial and error of becoming a fast rider.

A dream come true. Making a living in the industry I love so much. Growing the sport I have made many sacrifices for. It’s an honor to be able to share my love of the sport that molded who I am today.

Who’s your Coach?

My name is Cody Haverfield. I am 30 years old and grew up in Houston, Texas. I have a beautiful wife and baby. I started racing motocross at seven years old. I was not a natural athlete!

After many years of refinement and coaching I began racing the pro class at the ripe age of 18 years old. I was blessed to travel the country and line up against many of the top riders you see on TV today. I picked up a ton of knowledge from trial and error, training facilities and some world class coaches like Kyle Williams, Kevin Johnson, Larry Morton and Larry Hughes.

I started coaching at 18 years old as a means to help pay my way to the next big event. A few years later as a young adult I allowed myself to be influenced by a 9-5 job. I quit Mx and took up a day job. It was a tough three years of my life but I learned how to successfully run a small business. I was then given a great opportunity by Tyler Livesay of The Mx Factory where I coached for a few years and refined my coaching to an elite level and got back to racing.

At 23 I applied the same principles I learned from my experience as a motocross racer and became a Cat 1 XC mountain bike racer. From there I competed at a pro level in not only cross country racing but enduro as well. I am still competing in enduro and amateur motocross races on a bi monthly basis.

What is your coaching methodology?

What is your coaching methodology?
-Build strong fundamental technique
-Isolate deficiencies in technique and correct them
-Break down knowledge in a manner that is easily absorbed by student
-Build knowledge on the technical mechanics used by the riders on the cutting edge of the sport.

In my adult life I have applied my teaching methodology to a whole other sport, mountain biking. Using my training methodology, I have become a pro level mountain bike rider in a few short years. With great technique anything is possible!

How did you develop your teaching methodology?

I have been lucky enough to work with and surround myself with numerous top level riding coaches and successful pro riders over my 21 year racing career. I have taken something from each perspective and made it my own. What I share with you is the knowledge gained from my climb through the amateur ranks to becoming a pro level racer at a young age. Many loses, lessons, and some wins…
